The Childrens' Bookstore Exchange Program Art critic and curator Fei Dawei's first artwork is The Childrens' Bookstore Exchange Program, where an extensive library of art books will be on display and available in exchange for personal statements on BMoCA authored by Kinmen children. The Exchange is designed to encourage the local children to view BMoCA in the broader context of the international history of art, a process intended to broaden their perspective so they may better understand the potential impact the events of BMoCA and, in turn, of their homeland, might have on the international community; The children's statements will be published in local Kinmen newspapers, giving them a public voice in the community; posted on the Internet, allowing the children to participate in the international discourse surrounding BMoCA, and a selection of essays will be included in the BMoCA catalogue. Born in 1954 in Shanghai, Fei Dawei has served on the juries of UNESCO's Art Awards and the Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art's International Art Award since 1995, in addition to serving on the 2000 Gwangiu Biennial jury. Fei was a visiting professor at the French Ecole d'Art and the Guangzhou Academy of Art, and was awarded the Medal of Knighthood for Literature and Art in 1999 by the French Ministry of Culture. Fei has curated numerous exhibition internationally including Chine Demain pour Hier, Aix-en-Provence, 1990; Exceptional Passage, Fukuoka, 1991; Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition, Beijing, 1989, and others. He was a consultant on Magiciens de la Terre, Centre Pompidou, 1989 and the Lyon Biennale, 2000. One of the most prominent art critics and curators in China, Fei's Exchange channels his 20 distinguished years of art theory into artistic practice. |
