Fight Theatre For Fight Theatre, Zeng Li designed a three-panel stage set with traditional Chinese warriors fighting on a map of Mainland and Taiwan. The stage will host performances by 20-member Peking Opera troupe during the opening festivities, consisting of a succession of fight scenes reconstructed from traditional operas. Combining theatrical tradition with performance art and installation, this work references the almost legendary story of the bilateral standoff across the Strait, reflects the constant violence in the history of this land. A video recording of the performance will air for the duration of BMoCA. Born 1961 in China's Guangxi Province, Zeng Li graduated from Central Academy of Drama in Stage Art and Design and currently works with the People's Art Theater, Beijing. Zeng's work includes collaboration with Dutch New Orchestra on Diary of a Madman in 1994 and the 2003 production of Memories of Lake Taiping; collaboration with Zhang Yimou on Turandot for the Florence Song Festival Opera House, 1997 and again in Taimiao of the Forbidden City in 1998. Zeng was both costume and stage designer for the Raise the Red Lantern ballet in 2001; in 2001 he curated the First Architecture Biennial of Liang Sicheng at the China National Museum of Fine Arts. Zeng is presently involved in building the Museum of Contemporary Architecture at Shangyuan, Beijing. Zeng's photographic works have been exhibited at the Sao Paolo and Shanghai Biennials, and the Guangzhou Triennial. |
